Practice Boundary Consultation

Alert

The consultation will run from Friday 14th March 2025 and close Friday 4th April 2025.

Paper copies of the consultation document, FAQs and survey are available from Reception at both sites.

Topsham Surgery & Glasshouse Medical Centre (the practice) would like to apply to NHS Devon Integrated Care Board (ICB), who commission health care for the local population, to change the boundary of the practice.

As part of the application process, the practice must carry out a consultation and feedback exercise to gather the views of the patient population of this proposed change.

Why is the practice applying to reduce the boundary?

Over the last decade, the population within the practice boundary has grown with local housing developments and will continue to do so over the next decade.

The practice has plans to accommodate the increasing population and health needs as our patient numbers increase; and part of this plan is to reduce the outer edge of the practice boundary towards Westpoint, Farringdon, Perkin’s village and Aylesbeare.

This is so that the practice can continue to focus our time and resources on patients within the immediate areas of the practice sites.

These areas are on the furthest edge of the practice boundary, with an average travel time (without congestion or roadworks) of 15 - 20 minutes each way; however can be double that at peak times, school holidays and in the event of roadworks. The impact of travel time is significant and where home visits are required, can take up to 1 to 1.5 hours which is the equivalent of 6 to 9 appointments in practice.

Patients who are already registered and live outside of the new proposed boundary will remain registered, unless they move to another address outside of the practice area.

Cat & Fiddle Park
What is the practice boundary?

The practice boundary is the area in which patients must live, to be able to register with the practice.

What areas will be removed from the practice boundary?

We propose to remove the area shown in red which will include:

  • Westpoint Arena
  • Hill Barton Business Park
  • Farringdon
  • Perkin’s Village
  • Aylesbeare

Are there any areas what will not be excluded?

Yes, Clyst St Mary and Cat and Fiddle Park will remain within the new boundary.

Are there other GP surgeries that cover these areas?

Yes, areas within the proposed section to be removed fall within the boundaries of several other practices in the area, including:

  • Woodbury Surgery
  • Pinhoe Broadclyst Medical Practice
  • Haldon House Surgery
  • Coleridge Medical Centre

NB. the entire of the proposed area does not also fall within the footprint of all surgeries listed above, as each practice has a different boundary based on their location; however all parts of the proposed area is covered by one of more of the practices above.

I live in the area that will no longer be in the practice boundary; how will this affect me?

Patients who are already registered will be unaffected by this change, they will remain registered at the practice, and entitled to all of the same services that they were before the change happens.

What if I have a baby or someone moves in with me?

If you are already registered with the practice and someone moves into your home with you, such as a new child or partner, they can still register with our surgery; even if your address is within the area no longer in the boundary.

Do I need to move GP practice?

No. If you are already registered but live in the area that will no longer be in the proposed boundary area, you will remain registered with the practice.

What if I move to another address outside of the new boundary area?

You will need to move surgeries within 30 days of us being notified if your new address is outside of the boundary area.
